A Powerful combination of natural antioxidants for cosmetic use.

GSP-T is a combination of water soluble procyanidins from grape seeds with lipophilic natural alpha, gamma, and delta tocopherols. The product has been designed to give a transparent preparation of antioxidants in the water phase of cosmetic peoducts. Studies prove that GSP-T is extremely effective in the inhibition of UV-A induced lipid peroxidation. Cell culture experiments show that only the combination of water soluble and oil soluble antioxidants gives a good biological activity.

Grape seed procyanidins

Grapes, specially the red species such as pinot noir, are extraordineray rich in polyphenols. By far the biggest part of them are found in the seeds. In this most precious part of the fruit, these antioxidants protect the lipids of the germ bud against oxidative stress. Procyanidins, a group of polyphenols, show a broad spectrum of activity. In recent studies, they are reported to exert anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and antiallergenic activities. They have already been used in therapy as vasoprotectors in the treatment of circulation disorders and venolymphatic insufficiencies. Furthermore procyanidins are very efficient radical scavengers and have therefore been studied as cosmetic ingredients.

Increase of UV tolerance A clinical study with a cream containing 2.5% GSP-T. The forearms of 12 volunteers where treated twice daily for 10 days. The minimal erythemal dose (MED) was analyzed at the beginning and end of the treatment. The MED for the GSP-T treated skin area was 12% higher at the end of the study.

Hair protection Hair protection during blow-drying. Hair samples were treated with control or GSP-T conditioner before blow-drying. To define hair damage the protein concentration in the wash out of the dried hair samples was analyzed. Compared with control conditioner, treatment with GSP-T resulted in a concentration-dependent protection of the hair against protein leakage.
