Nano-Lipobelle CoQ10
Coenzyme Q10
Ubiquinone
Introduction
Over the last years, the use of
liposomes and nanoemulsions in skin care has gained a lot of interest.
Phopholipids from soy are widely used to prepare these formulations since they
contain a high level of esterified essential fatty acids, such as linoleic
acid. These preparations are known to improve the skin barrier function and
decrease the transepidermal water loss shortly after application. In addition, phospholipids
with a high content of phosphatidylcholine have excellent moisturizing
properties and help to smooth the skin.
The encapsulation of active
ingredients into nanoemulsions facilitates their delivery to the skin. Nanoparticles
have a high affinity to the stratum corneum and can therefore enhance the
bioavailability of the encapsulated material to the epidermis.
Nanoemulsions have been employed in skin care products for several years with
great success. Important factors for the quality and efficacy of these
preparations are a small particle size and a high content of phospholipids.
Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) is a new
cosmetic ingredient with promising properties in cosmetics. Mibelle AG -
Biochemistry (one of our principals) have developed different nanoemulsions
encapsulating coenzyme Q10 to offer optimal conditions for its application.
The major advantages of
nanoemulsions containing coenzyme Q10 are summarized as follows:
§
Most of the
conventional vehicles are inefficient to deliver their active ingredients into
the skin because of their failure to penetrate the horny layer. On the other
side, nanoemulsions efficiently penetrate into the skin and release the
encapsulated material.
§
Nanoemulsions
can build up a substantial reservoir of actives in the stratum corneum.
§
Nanoemulsions
are nontoxic, biodegradable vesicles and can be prepared on a large scale with
different loadings.
§
Nanoemulsions
can easily be formulated in cosmetic products such as creams and gels.
Description
Coenzyme Q10 is a very expensive
substance and should therefore be used in an optimal way in cosmetic
formulations. Mibelle AG - Biochemistry (one of our principals) have developed
two nanoemulsions encapsulating coenzyme Q10 at different concentrations.
Nano-Lipobelle t-EQ10 contains 1% of coenzyme Q10 and 3% of
Vitamin E acetate in a transparent nanoemulsion. This preparation is very
suitable to formulate clear gels containing the lipophilic antioxidants.
Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 contains 5% of coenzyme Q10 and 12% of
Vitamin E acetate in nanoemulsion. This preparation can be used to deliver high
concentrations of the antioxidants into creams, gels and lotions.
Application
Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 and
Nano-Lipobelle t-EQ10 can be used in a wide variety of skin care products:
